About the Event
Martha Bird will present an excerpt of her lecture on basketry as a tool for healing and empowerment in this groundbreaking
talk. She will share basketry from past to present, including the impact of stigma on creative expression
within the field. Martha uses her own personal experiences as well as research to challenge the
everyday references that often are shrugged off and contribute to perpetuating stereotypes of a
medium. Through the process of working through stigma, she will show how raising awareness and
