This basket was made in a Minnesota Basket Weaver's Guild class with Debbie Johnson as instructor. She learned this basket from Flo Hoppe at the National Basketry Convention that was held in Minneapolis, MN in 2015. She received permission to teach this class. Our class was held over zoom and proved to be incredibly difficult to make without the typical hands on help that comes in an in-person class format.
This is a Japanese basket and, per our instructor, is typically the first basket that young children of 4 and 5 years of age learn to make. It looks simple, but to learn it from a pattern and over zoom is quite difficult, as I soon found out.
